You may find desires from the past resurfacing. Or maybe a person you thought you were completely over crosses your mind. Perhaps a family story, a forgotten dream or an unresolved feeling rises unexpectedly to the surface.
The month may even see an old version of you reemerge!
This is all partly because Venus and Mercury turn retrograde this month. In astrology, a planet is called retrograde when it appears to move backwards through the sky. Magickally, these periods invite us to look back, revisit and reconsider.
But know this: not everything that returns belongs back in your life.
Some things return because we are finally ready to really look at them. Others return to be felt and more fully understood. Or healed and integrated. And sometimes things return so we can finally recognise them, and consciously release them.
Venus Retrograde revisits matters of love, money, desire and personal value. Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio reaches into unfinished conversations, hidden truths, memories and stories from the past. Meanwhile, the Libra New Moon asks us to reconsider the balance within our relationships, while the Taurus Full Moon reveals what is genuinely worth protecting and preserving.
As the Sun enters Scorpio and the seasonal wheel turns towards Samhain in the Northern Hemisphere and Beltane in the Southern, we arrive at one of the most magickally charged moments of the year.
This month you are being invited to listen closely.
Protect your energy without closing your heart. Honour the past without becoming trapped inside it. And decide which things that return belong with you in the next chapter.

Your Magickal October Calendar
All dates and times are listed in Pacific Time (US). You do not need to work with every date. Choose the energies that speak most clearly to you and allow the rest to pass without pressure.
October 2 – Feast of the Guardian Angels
Honour the spiritual beings believed to watch over and guide us. Light a white or blue candle, offer fresh water and ask your Guardians directly for protection or guidance.
October 3 – Venus Stations Retrograde in Scorpio
Love, trust, money, desire and self-worth come under review. With Mars opposing Pluto, avoid power struggles and reactive decisions. Remember not every challenge deserves your energy.
October 4 – Feast of St Francis of Assisi
Bless your animals, tend the garden or offer an act of care to the Earth. As the Sun opposes Saturn, respect your responsibilities, but also your limits.
October 10 – Libra New Moon
Set intentions for greater fairness and reciprocity. Venus square Mars may expose unmet needs, reminding us to seek honest balance, not peace at any price.
October 21–22 – Orionid Meteor Shower
Look skyward for the Orionids. Bright moonlight may obscure some meteors, but a little patience may still be rewarded.
October 23 – Sun Enters Scorpio
Scorpio season draws us towards mystery, truth and transformation. A Venus cazimi may also bring sudden clarity about what, and whom, you truly value.
October 24 – Mercury Stations Retrograde in Scorpio
Old conversations, memories and hidden information may resurface. Record what emerges, check your facts and allow revelations time to unfold.
October 25 – Taurus Full Moon
This Full Moon illuminates security, resources and what keeps us grounded. As Venus returns to Libra, ask what is genuinely worth preserving, and what you maintain only because it is familiar.
October 28 – Feast of St Jude
St Jude is traditionally petitioned for desperate or seemingly impossible causes. If hope is wearing thin, light a candle and ask plainly for help.
October 31 – All Hallows’ Eve, Samhain and Beltane
In the Northern Hemisphere, Samhain honours the final harvest and the beloved dead. In the Southern Hemisphere, Beltane celebrates warmth, pleasure and growth. All Hallows’ Eve also begins, a night rich with remembrance, spirit and mystery.
October 31 – The Samhain “Ancestor Divination” Live Group Spell
Between the Fires: Samhain and Beltane
October carries two very different seasonal currents, depending on where you live.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the land is withdrawing. Leaves are falling, daylight is shortening and the final harvests are being gathered. Samhain sits at the very last moment of autumn. As the season progresses towards winter, it invites us into remembrance, divination and communion with our ancestral past.
This is not only a time to think about those who have passed over. It is also a time to recognise what they placed into our hands.
The recipes, stories and warnings. The strength of spirit we possess. A deep core wound. Or a pattern that travelled through the family, generation by generation.
Some inheritances are blessings. Others are burdens. And we may choose not to carry them any further.
In the Southern Hemisphere, the land is opening ad blooming. Beltane celebrates spring moving towards summer: flowers, warmth, creativity, pleasure and connection.
Yet with Venus retrograde, this Beltane may feel more reflective than usual. Before calling something towards you, ask whether you genuinely desire it… or whether you have simply been taught that you should.
Wherever you live, the seasonal lesson is similar:
Consciously choose what you are carrying forward.
Remember: your own choices eventually become part of someone else’s inheritance.

The Flow Of October
October begins with an atmosphere of intensity.
As Venus turns retrograde in Scorpio, matters of love, trust, money, desire and self-worth come under review. Old feelings or relationship patterns may resurface, while Mars opposite Pluto exposes power struggles, buried anger and places where you’ve been giving away too much energy.
The Sun’s opposition to Saturn adds weight to the opening days of the month. Responsibilities may feel heavier, but discomfort can offer useful information. It can reveal where a boundary has been crossed, resentment has accumulated or you have continued saying “yes” after your spirit began saying “no.”
On October 10, the Libra New Moon turns your attention towards relationships, fairness and reciprocity. With Venus square Mars, however, keeping the peace may no longer feel possible, or desirable. This New Moon asks you to create balance through honesty, rather than pretending everything is fine.
The middle of October brings steadier energy. The Sun’s supportive connection with Jupiter restores perspective, while Mars trine Saturn helps you take sensible action. So have the conversation. Reinforce the boundary. Make the appointment. Begin the repair.
Then the Sun enters Scorpio, leading you towards the mysteries of memory, transformation and the unseen. Venus reaches the heart of the Sun, offering a moment of clarity about what you truly value.
The following day, Mercury turns retrograde in Scorpio. Forgotten conversations, family stories and unfinished truths may return. Record what emerges before deciding what it means.
Finally, the Taurus Full Moon illuminates what provides genuine comfort, security and stability. It asks you to recognise what is worth preserving…and what youe maintain only because it is familiar.
As October closes, we arrive at Samhain in the Northern Hemisphere and Beltane in the Southern. Together, we will walk the Ancestor Road during our Samhain Ancestor Divination Live Group Spell, listening for the wisdom of the past while choosing consciously what we will carry forward.

Your Guardians, Ancestors & Magickal Protection
October’s feast days offer several opportunities to work with spiritual protection, compassion and intercession. As the month draws us towards All Hallows’ Eve and the veil grows thin, we are reminded to choose carefully which spirits and energies we welcome into our lives.
The Feast of the Guardian Angels honours the spiritual beings that watch over and guide us. You may know them as Angels, Guardians, Spirit Guides, Spirit Team, helping spirits or members of your Spiritual Court.
Whatever term you use, spiritual relationships are still relationships. Speak to your Guardians. Thank them. Ask directly for their protection, guidance and help.
The Feast of St Francis invites us to extend sacred care beyond ourselves. Bless your animals. Feed the birds. Tend a garden, donate to an animal rescue or make an offering of care to the Earth.
The Feast of St Jude belongs to those moments when hope feels all but lost. Ask plainly for assistance and promise only what you are genuinely willing to give in return: a candle, prayer, donation or public expression of thanks.
Finally, All Hallows’ Eve carries us towards remembrance of the saints, ancestors and our beloved dead.
You do not need to come from a perfect family (or know every ancestor by name) to honour those who came before you. Call upon the ancestors who will assist you in achieving your Highest Good, the healed ancestors, the wise ancestors and those who wish to see you thrive.
Remember that you are also allowed to maintain boundaries with the dead.
Death does not automatically make every spirit wise, or safe to be around.
October’s energy of returning can be powerful, but it may also feel heavy. This is why protection should come before reaching out.
Before divination, ancestor work or emotionally intense Magick, cleanse yourself and your space. Light a white candle, place a glass of fresh water nearby and call upon the protectors you trust.
Then state your boundary aloud, something like:
“Only those who come in love,
wisdom and protection may enter this space.
All others must depart and remain away.”
Protection is choosing the terms on which you engage.
When the Past Knocks, You Don’t Have To Open Every Door
You do not need to welcome every presence, follow every intuitive nudge or investigate every strange feeling.
If something from the past returns, pause before reacting and ask:
✦ What has actually returned? A person, memory, emotion, pattern, desire or fear?
✦ Why might it be surfacing now?
✦ Does it require action, or simply acknowledgement?
✦ Is this mine to heal, integrate, release or protect myself from?
Some things need to be felt. Give yourself room to grieve, become angry or admit what mattered.
Some things need to be repaired through an apology, conversation or practical change.
Some things need to be integrated. Keep the wisdom without allowing the experience to continue ruling you.
Other things need to be released. Write them down and safely burn, tear or discard the paper.
And some things need a firm boundary like: “I recognise you. I understand why you returned. But you may not enter my life again.”
After heavy spiritual or emotional work, close your session deliberately. Thank your helpers, extinguish your candle and dispose of the water. Wash your hands, eat something nourishing and return to an ordinary activity.
A boundary is the safe container that allows feeling to happen without drowning everything else.
Magick supports this process, but it does not carry it alone. If what returns feels overwhelming, seeking help from someone you trust can also be part of your Magick.
Echoes of the Past: A Tarot Spread
Use this spread when an old feeling, person, desire or pattern returns and you are uncertain what it means or what you are meant to do with it.
Take a moment to ground yourself. Shuffle your cards while thinking about what has resurfaced, then draw seven cards:
1. What is returning?
The true nature of what has come back into your awareness.
2. Why has it returned now?
What has made this the moment for it to be seen.
3. What truth is this return revealing?
What lies beneath the memory, feeling or situation.
4. What needs to be felt or acknowledged?
The emotion or truth that should not be bypassed.
5. What wisdom is ready to be integrated?
The lesson, strength or understanding you can carry forward.
6. What may now be released?
The burden, belief, attachment or pattern that no longer belongs with you.
7. What protection or guidance walks beside me?
The energy, ally or practical support available to help you.
Write down your first response to each card before looking up its traditional meaning. Your immediate impressions may reveal something important.

Walking the Ancestor Road
This month, we will gather for the Samhain “Ancestor Divination” Live Group Spell.
Together, we will create a beautiful ancestral altar, prepare a special Veilwalker Oil and light the road between our world and the realm of our wise and loving dead.
Through meditation, automatic writing and Tarot, we will listen for the guidance that wishes to reach us.
For the first time, we are also working on an optional spell box to accompany the ritual. The details are still being finalised, so watch this space!
Live Spell Date and Time: October 31 @5pm Pacific Time (US)
Whether you know generations of family history or barely know where your ancestors came from, you are welcome.
Until Next Month…
October may return us to places we thought we had already left behind.
But returning is not the same as going backwards.
Sometimes we revisit the past because we are finally strong enough to see it clearly. Sometimes we recover a piece of ourselves that was left there. Sometimes we offer healing to a story that began long before us.
And sometimes we return only long enough to lock the door properly!
Protect your energy this month. Listen carefully. Ask for help. Keep what the parts that contain wisdom, love and strength.
Allow the rest to end with you.
Until next month…
May your Guardians walk beside you.
May your wise and loving ancestors speak clearly.
And may everything that returns help lead you home to yourself.
